The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has raided Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, and seized documents related to the purchase of jackets for police personnel, on Sunday. The CIAA seized the documents in suspicion of irregularities of about Rs 50 million while awarding tender for the supply of 56,059 jackets. Preliminary investigations have shown that the tender was awarded to a bidder who bided more than double the bidder who quoted the lowest price. Police headquarters awarded the tender to Anand Trade Concern (ATC) which quoted Rs 1833 per piece of jacket. Siddha Deurali Traders had quoted the least for the jackets at Rs 839 per piece. There are six other bidders who bid less than ATC. ATC is run by Deep Bhatta, who is believed to be close to the police chief, reports say. When a two-member CIAA investigation team led by Deputy Attorney Rajendra Kumar Shrestha reached the police headquarters Sunday, police officers were seen panicked. They decided to handover the related files after a brief discussion. The CIAA team returned with all 10 files related to the tender.
